Dr. Duerr holds a B.S. in Biology & B.A. in Chemistry, Whitworth University, Spokane; M.S. in Comparative Physiology, Portland State University; and a PhD in Cell Physiology & Membrane Transport, University of Hawaii; and joined the biology faculty at GFU in 1999. Dr. Duerr also serves as co-chair of the Biology Section of the Oregon Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Duerr's biological focus is on cellular bioenergetics and mitochondrial physiology, with specific applications to the cardiac response to hyperosmotic stress and hypoxia in anuran amphibians and, in collaboration with PSU biologists, to diapause in the annual killifish. Dr. Duerr maintains an active research program which encourages the participation of undergraduate students at GFU.
Dr. Duerr lives in Newberg with his wife and two young daughters and enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, live jazz and great coffee.
